Shelby works as the Membership Manager for the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Inc. She graduated from the University of Colorado with her Master of Arts in American history with a minor in public history and a certificate in historic preservation with high distinction. She received her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in history from the same institution. She also earned a certificate in genealogical research from Boston University and a certificate in antiques, collectibles, and appraising from Asheford Institute of Antiques. Prior to joining the Sons staff in 2021, Shelby worked as an intern for History Colorado in their school programs, communications and marketing, and archival departments. She also interned writing speeches for former Colorado Governor Hickenlooper at the Colorado State Capitol, assisted in various museum operations at the Byers-Evans House Museum, researched historic homes for Discover Denver, freelanced writing articles for the Colorado Encyclopedia and Oldwest.org, and worked for the University of Colorado as a teaching assistant, research assistant, and served as the head editor of the University of Colorado’s Historical Studies Journal. Shelby’s first book, The Queen of Denver, was published in 2020. She is the leading historian on Louise Sneed Hill and has given lectures on her research to numerous groups including: DAR, CDA 17th Century, Questers, Colorado Corral of Westerners, Center for Colorado Women’s History, University of Colorado at Boulder Rocky Mountain Interdisciplinary History Conference , and Colorado Preservation Inc.’s Saving Places Conference. In October 2020, she was immensely honored to serve as the keynote speaker for The Colonial Dames of America Fall Benefit.
Her current research focuses on women and consumption while comparing social and cultural trends of Britain and America at the turn of the twentieth century.
Shelby is also a professional dancer and has performed all over the world including the U.K., Brazil, Japan, India, China, and Mexico. She's volunteered at the Children's Hospital as a "princess" entertainer as well as performed in local benefits for non-profit organizations in Colorado. Most recently, Shelby was an NFL Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader for three seasons.
Shelby is dedicated to the preservation of historic structures and her family heritage. Currently, she works for Discover Denver researching historic homes throughout the Mile High City. She has also done personal research on the Colorado State Capitol Preservation as well as her family's prior business, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home of Kingston, NY - established 1889.
